Frequently asked questions
Is a rental car really necessary for Jeju Island?
Practically essential. Buses exist but travel time between key attractions doubles or more. Hallasan, Hyeopjae Beach, and Saryoni Forest in particular are very difficult to reach by bus.
Do I need a visa or K-ETA for Jeju Island?
Eligible nationalities arriving on direct international flights to Jeju can stay up to 30 days without a Korean visa under the Jeju Visa-Free scheme. However, being visa-free does not mean K-ETA-free — if your nationality requires K-ETA, you must obtain it before boarding even for direct Jeju entry. Entering Korea via mainland airports (Incheon, Gimpo, etc.) instead of flying directly to Jeju means standard Korean visa rules apply. Always verify your visa and K-ETA requirements on the Korean Ministry of Justice website before travelling.
What is the best season to visit Jeju?
Spring (Mar–Apr) for canola flowers, Jun–Jul for hydrangeas, autumn (Oct–Nov) for fall foliage. Summer is peak holiday season (crowded but great for swimming). Winter offers Hallasan snow scenery but unpredictable weather.
